... for the latest person to be found deviant. His name is Oldman, and he's a bundle of joy, let me tell ya. Kicked me something royal in Deck16, and that wasn't even his trial! Of course on the following map he let me win so my ego wouldn't be totally busted.
Welcome aboard, {DvT}Oldman!
October 20, 1999 -- Sapient6 |
Please join me in welcoming our newest member, {DvT}WangBanger. He's a fine player, and he showed us what it's all about during his trial. This guy is definitely a DEVIANT. He will begin subverting the populace with us immediately!
Welcome aboard, WangBanger. And congratulations! We're really glad to have you on our side!
The writing is on the wall, man. Battlelink is gone, and with it is our main method of privately exchanging information. For the time being we will return to mass mailings, but very soon we will switch to a mail list. This will make communication to the entire clan easy for us all.

On August 27th, 1999, we lost
Yak Balls. He was many things to us. A peer, a total stranger, a target. He was someone who shared with us a passion for this game. But most of all, Yak Balls was a friend. We miss him greatly. Yak Balls April 9th, 1981, August 27th, 1999 |

Let's give Pipefighter a late, but great welcome to DvT.
August 4, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
Everyone give a warm welcome to DvT's newest member, Latro. Another fine (but less verbose) player added to our ranks.
August 3, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
Yak_Balls has returned from leave and will be re-joining us in full capacity effective immediately. Yak requested that I paraphrase the following with regard to his uncle: "If a war and twins couldn't kill him, a stroke sure as hell isn't going to keep him down."

Okay, this pisses me off. First he quits-- practice is too late, blah blah blah. So we make special consideration and bump practice to an earlier hour. He comes back, and everyone gives him another warm welcome. Then he posts "I'm not sure". WHAT? What the fuck kind of bullshit is that? Not sure? Listen, "not sure" is the time before you rush a clan, not the time after.
Now normally, I wouldn't flame someone for quitting DvT. That's anyone's right. But there are a few things you shouldn't do, in my opinion. Like quit and post it to our forum trying to pull our members away to your lamo clan. Or quit because something isn't working out, then come back once we've made a change on your behalf, and then quit again two days later saying you "just don't wanna". That's just rude.
I'd like to say "sorry to see you go" or some such, because that would be a hell of a lot more classy than flaming him. But I'm not much for pointless lies. I'm not sorry when someone so inconsiderate leaves the clan. I think that's just fine. DvT doesn't need the bad blood.
July 25, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
The Jaydog saga has ended with good news! He's returned to the clan. Everyone drop him a line with a warm welcome back.
Please note that practices will now start at 9:00 PM EDT on our regular scheduled days. Look for details in your mailboxes.
July 24, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
Sometimes they come and go too quickly. Jaydog has resigned from DvT for personal reasons. Sorry to see you go, Jaydog! We all hope you'll come back to frag from time to time!
Due to popular demand (or unpopular demand in many cases), the Deviant Clan has given War Monkey the Flinger his(?) own forum to deal with those perplexing questions of life. Direct those questions through the "Flinger" button on the left.
July 22, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
Everyone give Oberon26 a warm welcome! We've had a couple of great weeks for new memberships, and Oberon26 is another fine addition to the group.
July 21, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
Yet another highly skilled player joins the DvT ranks. Everyone give Jaydog the big "hello" (and an eightball or two...tell 'em Archi sent ya).
July 19, 1999 -- Archipeligus |
I don't know who found FBall, nor do I care! He's a tremendous player who appears to be very adept with most, if not all weapons (and moves like greased lightning). Everyone give FBall a warm and deserved welcome.

Try outs. They are a pain in the ass. That's my official statement on the matter. Its one of those things I just don't have time for. So I'm delegating it.
I have formed a Tribunal of "Overseers". The three Overseers are viper, Mac_380, and Blecht. The process is a huge secret, so let me promptly share it with you.
Try out subjects, or "Suspects", are referred to me. I decide on which overseer will do the try out. Once I have made this decision I will send the Suspect's contact information to the Overseer, and the Overseer's contact information to the Suspect. The two of them will work out all details on time and place (hopefully the clan server). When they meet they will play a minimum of three maps. The Overseer will take screenshots of the results to each map.
After the match, the Overseer sends the screenshots to me along with his appraisal of the Suspect's skill and demeanor, and his recommendation for the acceptance or otherwise of the Suspect.
BTW, credit for the term "Tribunal" is mine, but "Overseer" was viper's idea. Credit where it is due, eh?
You will notice I have updated the Overseers' roster pages. They now have cool titles as well as a special "Tribunal Overseer" logo. Ultimately I'd like anyone who takes on a special clan duty to have a cool title & logo for his roster page as well. If you are helping me carry the weight and don't yet have a title (you know who you are), contact me if you have an idea. I just haven't been able to come up with any yet.

Defiance has officially left the Deviants Clan as of 7/16/99 to pursue other interests. So long Defiance, and best of luck!
Almost every member of DvT has expressed that they'll be staying with the clan regardless of Defiance's departure. WE ARE HERE TO STAY, PEOPLE!!
Due to personal matters, YakBalls is currently on leave, but will keep in touch whenever possible. Godspeed Yak!
July 11, 1999 -- Sapient6 |
After a brief hiatus, due to circumstances beyond his control, Archipeligus has returned to DvT. Many of you (most of you) will not be familiar with him, but he is one of the founders of DvT. We should be seeing him at practice this Thursday, so I hope you will all give him a warm welcome back.
As you should all be aware, DvT now has two divisions. Defiance and I need to know whether you plan on playing Teamplay, RealCTF, or both. Drop me a line soon, so I can update the roster page and give us all a clear idea of who is interested in what.
July 10, 1999 -- Sapient6 |
Mac_380 found this one. Sent him to me promptly for a tryout. Wow! What a player! We ended each map of the tryout within one or two frags of each other. Everyone, this is Blecht. Blecht, this is everyone. Welcome aboard!
July 9, 1999 -- Sapient6 |
Defiance has brought in a new member to swell the ranks of DvT's CTF team. I'm late with this news, of course, and he's been thoroughly welcomed both in the Forum and at last night's practice. Heh... at practice we welcomed him with a good thrashing. JonahHex took the thrashing like a good sport, so although he needs some work, we know his attitude is right. Welcome aboard!
Speaking of last night's practice, wow! What a game. That was the stuff! Of course what we learned will remain confidential and won't be posted here or at the forum, I think all in attendance were able to see some real Teamplay take place. We focus on this over the next few weeks and we'll be in great shape!
I've tinkered around with this just a little more... a style sheet here, some new info there, table borders removed in that corner, etc. I'm still looking to tidy things up a bit, so if anyone has some suggestions, drop me a line.
We are NOT splintering. What we are doing is making a divide between our CTF and Teamplay groups. Defiance and I need to know which teams you're interested in... If you've already told me, then I've updated your Roster page. Keep in mind that its perfectly acceptable to be on both teams.
As for what will happen when UT comes out, that's a wait and see sort of thing. We may have to duke it out a little ;). Perhaps an internal clan match in each category will decide things.
Defiance has put up a server, or so I gathered from an announcement he made last night. Unfortunately it was during a heated game (this one involving viper and I against the rest of DvT in attendance... next time we'll go easy on ya!). So, needless to say, I caught almost nothing of the announcement. As soon as he drops me a line with the server info, I'll put it up on our server page.
Woo-hoo! Another clan server. We rule!

So what's the good word? The good word if you're reading this is that DvT has finally got its ass together. We've got regular practices moving along nicely. We've got a clan match on the way. We've got ourselves a nice message board up and running. And now we're being hosted here on Unreality...
Of course, as I write this our site isn't yet hosted there. But I've about finished with the site plan and layout, so I expect that this will be up and in your face in no time.
What's next, you ask? The world! They'll never know what hit 'em.
Well, I've hardly had a chance to take a look at it yet, but I've got my
new Viper V770 Ultra hooked up. I can tell you this: At a resolution of
1152x864 with 32 bit color, I average 24 fps in the flyby. As a
comparative, with the TNT1 card I got about the same fps at the same
resolution but with 16bit color. This card is pretty fucking beautiful,
and it installed & ran Unreal without a hitch. So you know, I never
tried the default drivers -- I just stuck with the NVidia reference
drivers. It came with some lousy software -- I knew the bundled crap would
suck -- so I ran out and grabbed Return to Na Pali. Played through the
first level of it. All I can say is the Assault Rifle kicks some major
ass!
Okay, here's what I did. I gimped a load of FuryVII's content. I took that "HTML" and cleaned out all the shit that Front Page had dicked into it (never, never use front page, this is about the dirtiest HTML Editor on the market). I added style sheets, since that lets us change color schemes and such quickly if we so choose. I switched over to the color scheme I used on my page. And finally, I grabbed a bunch of my stuff and buried it into my profile page here.
A little later, maybe in a week or so I'll drop off a whole new profile of myself. You got some new stuff for yer profile, or some personal content you want to add? Let me know, I'd be glad to wedge it in there (I say me instead of FuryVII -- I'll be doing most of the layout stuff... that will free FuryVII to do news stuff etc.) Also, if you dig my cool logo for Sapient6 (I know I do), & you'd like one for yerself, I'd be glad to make one for you. Just let me know -- but you'll need to come up with the concept yourself.
So anyway, if you'd like us to tweak the layout, drop me a line. And while I'm taking suggestions, if there's any special content you'd like to see here (other than DvT News and Rants) let me know about that too.
